The Brookwood Community

There are very few places I have been that I can say are truly inspiring or left me in awe. One such place is The Brookwood Community located in Brookshire Texas. What is The Brookwood Community and what does it have to do with mortgages?

Brookwood is a God-centered educational, residential, and entrepreneurial community for adults with disabilities. Through the Grace of God, The Brookwood Community provides an educational environment that creates meaningful jobs, builds a sense of belonging, and demands dignity and respect for adults with disabilities.

Our campus consists of eight group homes, two single-family staff homes, a residential Inn, health and dental clinic, Worship Center, enterprise building, activities and administration building, forty-seven greenhouses, Gift and Garden Center and the Café at Brookwood, and several other support buildings.

Our programs serve: 110 resident adults, known as Brookwood “citizens”, who are functionally disabled and live at Brookwood 24/7. Another 80 plus adults participate in our day program.

The range of diverse needs we help include people with autism spectrum disorders; intellectual disabilities; developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injury; dual diagnosis; and/or aging care needs.

We also serve as a resource for families. Brookwood’s outreach program actively shares our innovative concepts and techniques with other professional caregivers across our nation and around the world.

Mortgages at Flagstone Financial have everything to do with The Brookwood Community as a way to honor our clients we make a monthly donation to The Brookwood Community.  We have been guests at Brookwood many times.

But today was a very special day as we were the invited guests at The Brookwood Community to tell “our story” of giving to this wonderful organization. They asked us to make a video and let people know that you don’t have to be an Exxon-Mobil or a rich benefactor to make a difference in your community.

It was six years ago almost to the day that we were introduced to Brookwood and after visiting we were compelled to make them part of our monthly donation pledge in the name of our clients.  Brookwood takes no government monies and is fully funded by their on-campus businesses along with private donations.

When you make giving back to your community part of your company values it’s a win-win-win. The charity benefits from the donation, you have a great way to honor your clients, and you make a difference in the lives of others.

Be looking in the next couple of weeks for our video at

Thanks to Joe Mazzu and Vivian Shudde for having us out today and being such wonderful friends!
